Mirror and Kodi Work of Gujarat
Mirror work, abhla bharat, is one of the great folk embroideries of Gujarat. In Kutch and Saurashtra, women stitched discs of mica, later glass, into their clothes with interlaced thread, and mirrors were believed to turn away the evil eye. Kodi, cowrie shells, were added as charms of luck and prosperity; cowries were once currency too. Both meet in the Navratri chaniya choli worn for garba. This set brings that look in ready-to-wear form, with real mirrors and kodi on a thread-worked panel.
