The design
Botanical Motifs in Indian Textiles
Flowers have decorated Indian cloth for centuries, from the painted and block-printed cottons of the Coromandel coast to the botanical studies made in Mughal ateliers, where artists recorded real plants with close attention. Printers in Gujarat and Rajasthan carried the same motifs onto dupattas and skirts, and a spring meadow became a common sign of renewal at weddings and festivals. This piece is a digital print: the flowers were drawn by hand and reproduced by machine on organza, so it borrows the look of that painted tradition rather than its hand process. The yellow and peach shade into each other like a flower opening at dawn.
