Chaniya Choli: Dressed for Garba
In Gujarat, Navratri means nine nights of garba and dandiya raas, and the dress for it is the chaniya choli: a flared skirt, a short blouse and an odhani. Kutch and Saurashtra gave it mirror work, abhla bharat, where small discs of glass, once mica, were held to the cloth with stitches and flashed in lamplight as dancers turned. This set is a ready-made version of that look, with mirrors and stones set on a plain-coloured blouse rather than stitched in the village way.
