Arches of Mughal and Rajput Buildings
Arched panels run through Mughal and Rajput buildings. In mosques the mihrab niche marks the direction of prayer, and in palaces and havelis the jharokha is a projecting window or balcony, often under an arch. Craftsmen carried the same arches into painted walls, carved wood and textiles, where the arch frames a flower or a vine. A handmade version is painted or block printed one repeat at a time. This gown carries the arch on organza as a digital print: the same architecture, made by a machine in one pass.
