The design
Sitara & the Royal Elephant
Sequins began as sitara, the Urdu word for star: small discs of beaten metal stitched into court textiles alongside zardozi gold work in Mughal workshops. Today they are lighter and brighter, but the idea is unchanged: cloth that catches the light as you move. The elephant, a symbol of royalty and good fortune across India, walks beneath arches along this kurta's hem, an echo of the carved jharokha windows of Rajasthani palaces.
