The design
Patola: Patan's Double Ikat
Patola is among the most demanding weaves in the world. In Patan, Gujarat, Salvi weaver families tie and dye both the warp and the weft threads before a single row is woven, so the pattern appears only where the two sets of threads meet. One sari can take months. Parrots and elephants are among its best-loved motifs. This lehenga is a printed tribute to that grid, touched with foil for garba nights, not a woven patola.
